ExScan Rigil mesh processing time too long - issue

Hi!

During the last few days I have been scanning a lot and noticed that for big scans and models the meshing times differ a lot.

Explanation:
For this example I uses a model with 2 projects in the project list, total points 50 Million (project size around 5Gb), 0.1mm resolution and after cleaning the point cloud i go to “mesh”, set my preferences (see picture (usually these are always the same)) and hit the “Preview” button. For this specific model the process bar goes to 80% and then in remains there. Out of curiosity I left it like that for around 4h. During this period, all of my 16cores run at full load (all of the time). The memory is not really something that changes.

So, I decided to abort this mission (=shut down ExScan Rigil), which I have repeated 2 times (yes, 2x4 h past weekend) and what happened then was interesting.

When I close the ExScan software and redo the mesh, the mesh is generated within 1-3 minutes without issues.

So I tried a new experiment:
I used the same model but after modifiying of the point cloud to the same degree, I save the progress, shut down the ExScan SW, start it again, go to mesh, click “Preview” and it is there within 1-3 minutes again.

I am not sure why it is doing it but for me it looks like something that needs to be fixed.

Thanks!

Best regards,

RoB

Hi RoB,

Thank you for the detailed description and for sharing your findings. The behavior you described is very helpful for our investigation.

Could you please first confirm whether you are currently using the latest version of EXScan Rigil?

If possible, could you also submit the project file and the corresponding logs to our support team through a ticket? This would allow our engineers to reproduce and further analyze the issue.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Stephanie,

Yes, I am using the latest SW for postprocessing.

If You can give a detailed description of how to generate and find the corresponding logs, I would be glad to do it.

Thanks!

Best regards,
RoB

Hi Stephanie,
Can You provide detailed instructions?

Thanks!
