I received my first Rockit scanner and noticed that in cross-line mode one projection line was significantly brighter than the others. The brighter line was coming from one specific projector module.
After discussing this with support, I received a replacement scanner.
However, the replacement scanner shows the same issue again, but now the brighter line comes from the opposite projector module.
So both scanners show an abnormally bright line in the cross-line projection pattern, just on different projectors.
I tested both scanners under different lighting conditions and surfaces. Cross-line mode frequently loses tracking and feels unstable during scanning, while the 7 parallel line mode works much more reliably.
I would like to ask other Rockit owners:
Do your scanners show one brighter line in the cross pattern?
Is this considered normal behavior?
Could this affect tracking stability in cross-line mode?
I could only attach one photo because of the forum attachment limitations, but both scanners show the same issue on different projector modules.
Looks like I will probably return mine as well. I got two scanners with the same kind of issue, just on different projector modules.
Honestly, this is the first time I’ve had a situation where I replaced a defective product and received another defective one again. Maybe there was a bad production batch or something similar.
Yes, it doesn’t interfere with the use of the device, but it greatly reduces the enjoyment of using it when there’s a nagging niggle somewhere inside you. It’s new, after all, and that shouldn’t be the case. And if you sell it, it will greatly reduce the value of the device in the eyes of a potential buyer… like selling a scratched car and saying, “Well, it drives just as well as without the scratch.”
P.S. But at least I’d like to say good words about the company, because they’re replacing it without any hassle.
