i plan to scan a boat on a trailer. Want to use my Rigil Scanner. i never scan such a big Object.
Can someone help me to plan this Project?
Rigil have the markerless Laser feature, - in Standalone Mode, too?
do i need to use markers?
make one scan or more scanns? how to align the separate scans together?
I did a partial boat scan with a Vega. I did use makers. I started from the inside and worked my way out. I was mostly attempting to just get the inboard area for the engines so we could model for air intakes.
If you’re attempting the entire boat I would probable do it in a few sections. I have not had the opportunity to use a Rigil yet but I’m sure the workflow would be similar just faster and more convenient with less setup (marker less) unless the boat doesn’t have a lot of features.
Exscan should handle the alignment of the scans. Good luck
We suggest to scan boat with IR mode, ideal for big object and hybrid tracking will helps a lot. You can use feature + marker tracking to minimize the need of markers. Marker should be necessary when scan object with large size and few geometric features like boat to ensure accuracy.
Big objects with high resolution in Laser mode will require very high RAM to process and longer time to tracking due to the FOV.
Thank you for your Reply! sounds good. In IR Mode how to place Markers? in which Distance? the inner Section from the boat i want to use a higher resolution. is it possible to merge them later? Whe i make more scans from the boat, sholud i make 1 project with different scans OR for each scan a new project? for Merging, do i need to cleanup the scans before and mesh it and merge the seperate scans together? or merge before meshing? Thank you!
Currently project alignment only support projects with same resolution. If you want to merge all parts of your boat in one project group, it requires same mode and same resolution.
Merge projects before mesh, you’d better clean the background data or the unwanted data before merge them together, sometime it will be different to clean, like you scan the two sides of same project on same ground, etc.
Distance between each marker depends one the actual object feature and working distance, you need to do a real scan to get more experience.
When sticking markers, you need to avoid these situation:
don’t make marker as equilateral triangles or other perfectly regular geometric shapes, such as squares and circles.
Thank you for this Information!
now i ordered 12mm Markers, i think its better for the huge surfaces.
I understand right, in a Project or Group i can not use different Resolutions? for example scan the underside with 2mm resolution, and the upside with 0.5mm Resolution for example? both in IR mode?
