Align Scans Without Merging

This is more of a question on a feature that I believe this scanner/software has but I have never seen a video on it specifically. However It would seem everyone who use this scanner has the ability to do it or maybe they have other software or techniques that allow them too.

The feature I am talking about is being able to align multiple scans without merging them so I could then take those files and import them into fusion 360 and they would upload already aligned and I would then be able to turn them on and off individual.

An example of this would be scanning the front of the car then scanning the engine bay and aligning them but not merging them. So say I wanted to design a vented hood I could see all my clearance of the engine but also be able to work off the geometry of the hood.

I’ll post one example I’ve seen of scan alignments that aren’t merged from superfast matt It’s Time at the 12:55 mark you can see him bring up a scan and then he hides the fullbody scan that has an aligned scan of just part of the front end still visible.

Sorry if this is an obvious feature to all who own the scan but as someone looking to buy I can’t find anything that confirms this feature is in the software or not

Hi, Leone

Thanks for your suggestion! To better understand your idea,We would like to clarify if you mean: the VEGA app/StarVision could also allow creating multiple projects within the same view, similar to the EXstar software, to make it easier for you to import them into 3D design software for further operations?

Looking forward to your response

I was asking specifically about Einstar EXstar software but would be good to know if it works the same for both software!

But essentially yes. I have used other scanners where you have multiple projects but the only way to align them is to merge them so when exporting all I have is one scan to work off of, and I lose the ability to work on or with each part of the scan to toggle on and off.

So if I am understanding you correctly you can create a project group before or after creating project scans? Then align all those projects without merging them and keep them in there own drop downs in the project group like the example you posted.

Then would I be able to export the whole project group as one file? Which can then be open in fusion 360 or other software and show that all 3 mesh’s were still aligned and then they would be able to get toggled on and off individually?

Hi, Leone
We’ve checked your suggestion, currently we don’t support these function on EXStar, we will evaluate this demand and update you with the results if we will develop it or not. Thank you again for your support! :kissing_heart:
