Plans for Rigil and MacOS

Hello I have an EinStar for about a year now, and was thinking about upgrading to a Rigil. My entire CAD workflow is based in MacOS – are there any plans to make the software for Rigil MacOS compatible?

Hi, There is a MacOS plan for Rigil in this year!

Wonderful, thank you!

Thats very good news!

It looks like the Mac software is rolling out for some of the other scanners. Any projected date for the Rigil?

Currently under development — stay tuned!

Our company and CAD workflow is also 100% macOS based. Highly anticipating the macOS release of ExScan Rigil. I would love to participate in a testing / pre-release program if that would be of value.

Any timeframe for a Mac version of ExScan Rigil?

I just bought a Rigil and now I am stuck.

I have a MacBook and I realized that there was no Mac version of ExScan but, perhaps stupidly, I just assumed I could run it under Parallels.

So, it seems like out of luck. Not sure if I should go out and buy a Windows laptop or not because not sure how long until the Mac version will be released. I had seen end of Q1 but we are past that.

Is there a beta program I could get into?

Thanks,

Kenric

@kenricrose We are in a similar position. Our team knew that ExScan Rigil for macOS was on the way when we purchased last year, but the platform support has yet to materialize.

Unfortunately, Parallels is a no-go (as you discovered) because ExScan Rigil currently requires a Nvidia GPU chipset to run. I believe the software refactor necessary to render and process point cloud and mesh data with Apple’s M-series GPUs is the reason for the delayed release. Completely understandable.

I have also asked about a beta / pre-release program—no responses thus far.

This is my #1 interest with the Rigil, so I monitor the Shining3D / EINSTAR channels daily for any updates. Set up email alerts for forum posts here and you’ll be the first to know. I am also posting relevant Rigil + macOS updates to the (new) r/EinscanRigil subreddit so news about this is easier to find via Google.

Re: Windows laptop — I am going on the road with our Rigil multiple times in the coming weeks. I decided to rent a mobile Windows workstation (Dell with Nvidia RTX + 64GM ram). The Rigil’s standalone features are great, but high-end utility is limited, particularly when it comes to alignment (stitching) and post-processing. If you’re VERY determined, you can largely get away with all on-device post-processing. It’s just fiddly—I feel like I need a stylus and a magnifying glass.

Please reach out to me directly if you’d like to talk more about using the Rigil with macOS. I do Reverse Engineering full time with this setup.

The Mac beta for Rigil is currently in preparation — stay tuned!
