Laptop Specs for Rigil

I purchased a Rigil and need to pair it with a laptop that will not be over taxed by it. I really want to use it for combination IR and laser scanning. I also want to be able to model and slice on the same laptop.

Can someone give me minimum reasonable specs. I dint want to over invest or be under powered.

Thanks

Hi Steve. I have no Rigil but a Rockit and I am using a desktop PC at the moment for scanning, CAD, modeling and slicing. I can give you some observations that may help your decision.

Pay attention to the hardware recommendations and requirements of all of your tools in your workflow. CAD software, modeling software. Slicers are usually not an issue, most slicers scale badly with multicore CPU anyways.

Stay away from “minimum” hardware recommendations by a wide margin, these most often mean minimum hardware required to start the software - not to get productive..
Depending on what you scan (size, detail) and where you process the pointcloud (on device/on computer) RAM might become an issue .
I currently have 96GB of RAM and I have hit a wall with some scans there already.
I have monitored RAM usage on most of my scans and in my case I would consider 64GB of RAM as the bare minimum for my usecases, covering lots but not all of my scanning needs.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU or above is a bare minimum requirement as stated by Shining3D. You really need an nvidia card because other brands are not supported (CUDA support!!) so do not be tempted to think another brands card is faster than the RTX 3060… It may be X times faster but the software won’t work with it!

Processor: 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-13700H or above is Shinings recommendation. I would not go below that.

I hope some Rigil owner will chime in and we can learn from his/her real world experience.
I expect that workflows might be different as Rigil is probably bought more often by people that want on device processing and use scan to PC less than rockit users that always scan to pc.

Thanks for the info. Like you said I’m hoping someone from shining3d will come in. I’ve invested a lot in this new venture already and really don’t want to over spend on a laptop before I get revenue coming in. The scanner was a very big investment.

Thank you for reaching out to us. In order to get a smooth and great experience when you using Rigil, my personal suggestion of PC specs would be:

Win10/11, 64 bit; Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX3060 and above;

Video memory: ≥6GB; Processor: I7- 11800H and above; Memory: ≥64GB

Then you can do the scan and process just fine

Thanks. Don’t have the funds for that much laptop yet. Will have to wait a bit.

Before I make the investment. So these specs look adequate to you? I want i be able to scan with Rigil in pc connected mode and run all the associated software for post processing. Thank you in advance.

  • 64GB DDR4 RAM and a 1TB PCIe M.2 SSD

  • Core i7-13620H ( 10 Cores, 16 Threads, 24MB L3 Cache, 1.80GHz base frequency, up to 4.9 GHz max turbo frequency), with ‎GeForce RTX 4050.

yes, this specs seems ok
