Potential Vega Buyers

This was our first 3D scanner, and we have not used it a whole lot unfortunately, largely because of how difficult it has been to use. So I may be off on some things I am not happy with, but let me start off with:

  1. The device came in a great little carry case. But the item holders and compartments are rather odd; nowhere for the calibration board support mount, which can easily get fitted into the case, but they decided against it? Same with the charging cord and power block.
  2. I workout daily, and while I can easily handle this device, it is rather bulky and heavy, and the hand grips are somewhat odd-shaped; it almost needs more hand grip going downward as the current style makes you naturally put your hands/fingers all over the lens’. I would think since you made the case custom already, making it a bit more comfortable would be ideal. The tripod hand grip is okay, but it doesn’t make the device any lighter.
  3. The original software had major issues with processing basic items (the time it took), but we were able to actually scan items somewhat easily. Now, after updating to the latest software version, it does take much less time for the initial processing, and it is also nice they included a percent completion, as staring at a spinning pinwheel is worse than watching paint dry. But now the device just simply is not working like it was yesterday before we updated.
  4. The tracking loss is so frequent, it isn’t able to even start a scan now, even with positioning markers all over our item. I am not sure what other settings there are to really change, but the device has become almost unusable on basic large objects with markers all over them.
  5. The battery life is wildly short; I think we dropped 60% just from scanning and processing a scan of around 1.6 million points and around 3600 frames.
  6. Device distance has been horrendous since the update; not sure what changed, but now it tells me to get super close, and when I do, it goes haywire and stops scanning, looses track, and tells me to adjust screen brightness and/or distance settings, which used to all be automatic and are all now manually adjusted.
  7. No instruction manual?
  8. One last try I gave it while typing this, and it isn’t even getting past the “Starting” screen to start to scan an object with great lighting in my office now, so yeah, I will for sure be requesting a refund or exchange for their original scanner.

Again, this is my first 3D scanner purchase, super unimpressed, especially for the price. We bought this to scan large rectangular tanks to build from with position markers, of course. But now we’re going back to the drawing board on what we need.

Hi, FLSI

Thank you for reaching out, and we appreciate your feedback!
We understand that getting started with a 3D scanner can come with some challenges, but many of these can be resolved as you become more familiar with its use.
We’ve posted several tutorial videos to help users get started with the EINSTAR VEGA, which you can check out here [here] :face_with_monocle:(https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhfBSrom6slLMOt8Kj9aasae1Xplg6fG8&si=5vbz8Cvj4akvmMel).
Additionally, here’s a quick guide available on our official website: link

We’d love to know more about your specific scanning needs. If you could share the details or images of the objects you’re trying to scan, we’d be happy to provide personalized suggestions and guidance to help you achieve better results.

If you’d like, we can also arrange an online meeting to discuss further and assist you more directly. :handshake:

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello FLSI!

Don’t be too pessimistic.
The Vega is a glamorous device. But 3d scanning is not point and shoot, instead it is a complex process that must be understood before you can get good results regardles of the Hardware you use.
I tumbled in this topic exact the same way as you, i think. I bought my first scanner for my usecase just to realize there is more to it than just point the scanner onto an object and getting a good 3d model. But in difference to you, my first scanner was really poor.
The Vega in difference is a really advanced Hardware device with agile Software that will improve fast in the near future.
comparable Hardware was starting at 10k and that only 5 years ago. And they often also had not the best Software.

My advise for you, try to get to know your device. Start with easy things to scan, not shiny, white feature rich, …
Ramp up the complexity step by step and i bet you will start loving your VEGA. One of the best devices in its field

Wish you luck!

P.S. I am not sponsored by Einstar, i am just positive impressed

could you give us an image of your usecase?
Maybe we could assist you.
