I had my Einstar working really well and then shelved it for a few months. I tried to scan this weekend and, while the preview looked fine and wasn’t lagging, when I started the scan proper, acquisition slowed to a crawl, I lost tracking constantly and the data had a lot of noise.
First off; This software (EX 1.2.2.0) needs a debug mode. Here’s the things I’ve noticed:
- Upon opening the software, it lags and becomes unresponsive for several seconds and will snap back to attention after it finally fully loads.
- Whenever you open any dialog that needs to see the filesystem (open a project, select a location to save a new project, etc.) the software will again become unresponsive, crash explorer, resize itself to take up the space of the now missing taskbar, resize itself again because explorer restarted and brought back the taskbar, freeze some more and then, after about 20 seconds of this nonsense, it finally proceeds to let me name my project and select a location for it.
- ALL the menus are laggy.
- Data acquisition has gone from what felt like about 20fps to about 2 seconds per frame. I don’t know what that means in points per second but the software doesn’t give us that information so…
- Re-installing the software changes nothing.
This seems to have happened about the same time that MS decided to stuff AI into every nook and cranny of the OS. My laptop is a 16-core with a 2070 and 32GB of RAM and, more importantly, used to scan very cleanly. Now I can’t capture even a simple instrument panel without having to start over a dozen times as the software does a very poor job of recovering from lost tracking (it almost always introduces artifacts in the scan).
What are some things I could check? I’m on the latest nvidia drivers and Windows is current.
Hi there, sorry for the inconveniences that caused. Below are my suggestions:
1.Pls try reinstalling the software from our official portal below
Einstar Software Download : Einstar Support
2.Pls try calibrating the scanner to see if it solves the issue.
3.If the issue persists when you have tried all the suggestions above then pls export the log from the software and submit a ticket at Submit a ticket : Einstar Support and share the log file with us, our engineers will soon reach out to you.You can find the log file under the path where you install the EXStar software.
Likewise, during the entire time of use there was not a single program slowdown, everything always flew and I used the responsiveness of einstar rokit as an example, but in the latest update, at the first start, there was a drop in frames to 5-8 frames per second.
Turns out that windows update uninstalled windows media player and, in the same update, took over prioritizing which applications have access to the GPU. I reinstalled WMP and told windows to mind it’s own business, set the EXSTAR executable to use my nVidia GPU and everything seems to be working well again.
This does have me worried, however, as Microsoft has been known to just outright remove software that they don’t wish to maintain anymore, I now worry that I’m using my Einstar at Microsoft’s whim. They could, potentially, remove my ability to use the scanner at any time by simply removing WMP via an update.
The entire MS ecosystem is turning into a hostile, adversarial environment. I wish you guys would release a flatpak or a .deb version.
Check to make sure Windows update didn’t uninstall windows media player. Turns out EXSTAR relies on it, and my copy of windows uninstalled WMP without asking me. Reinstalling it fixed most of the issue.
