Feature Location Export

Hey,

I am using the ExStar software to prepare our scans. I want to export the locations of my manually set features (dots) for further analysis. I can set the features, but I am unable to export them. For example, when I use the .asc format, the features are not included. How can I export them?

Hi,

Have you completed the model mesh? You can export it in STL, OBJ, PLY, or other formats to obtain a fully usable 3D model. If you don’t see these formats available for export, you may not have clicked on “Mesh” yet. Please refer to the image below for guidance.

The ASC format is only for point cloud data and requires third-party software (such as GE) to read it. Exstar itself does not support opening ASC files. This format is mainly used for tasks like inspections and raw data recording.

Hello! Thanks for your request and the information. Maybe we are talking about different things. I created the mesh, and next, I used the “feature tool” in the measurement section. In the measurement section, I can, for example, calculate the distance between two points and save the distance in millimeters. There is also the possibility to set “points.” There, I can see the position, and I can set more and more points, BUT I can’t see any option to export the location of the points.

That means, at the moment, I extract the locations manually, which is really inefficient.
Therefore, my question is: is it possible to save the point locations somewhere, or are they saved in any of the other formats? In the OBJ format, I couldn’t see the feature point information anywhere.

This feature extraction is only saved within the EXStar software, and the corresponding information is not available when exporting. The main functions of EXStar are still focused on scanning and post-processing. We have added some features to meet simple measurement needs, but for more precise measurements, it relies on third-party software such as CX
