Rigil and ExScan issues and feature request

Hi all!

I am running a company offering 3D Scan, CAD and manufacturing services so for me, cutting processing time is a very important factor.

For 2 months now I own the Rigil and coming from a different manufacturer who clearly has a less mature product, it was helpful to see what is possible and to have a good comparison.

While I am very happy with this device due to the speed and the possibilities it offers due to HW being much better and more refined, I am not very happy with the SW as it lacks some basic features:

  1. After meshing it is not possible to save the mesh into the project. While I have already read about this issue in this community, I am not satisfied with the fact that the support tells people it is because of “to avoid having huge files on the drive”. Scanning files are already huge so in my opinion this is not even a good excuse.

The reason it would be important to have this feature is simply because of the postprocessing of the files in the CAD. Sometimes customer needs very detailed stl files, sometimes they change their mind mid project or find out that their PC is not as powerfull as they thought and request files with less triangles. When this is the case, me, as a service provider have to go through all of the steps again to remesh a modell. This takes time which I cannot bill.

Just several days ago I had a very detailed model with around 50 Mio Triangles where meshing took several hours with 16 cores so You can imagine having to do this 2 or 3 times to meet a customer demand.
Also, even for my first, very very cheap scanner from a different company, this was not an issue.

  2. Similarly annoying is the fact that meshes that were done on the device itself are not exported to the PC so that the user has to remesh the model again. Meshing of a model with around 9Mio points takes around 15-20 Minutes on the device. Sometimes it is necessary to mesh on the device to have a “quick” check up if all necessary details were scanned. Up to yesterday I did not do this on the device because it was not needed but yesterday was the first time I had to mesh on the device to check if all the necessary small details were scanned. Imagine my surprise exporting to my PC today and finding that I have to do meshing again. This was a huge waste of time that again, cannot be billed to the customer. Please change this!

  3. Observed behavior: Exscan meshes all “projects” of a project group at once.
Expected behavior: Meshing of only selected "projects of a project group shall be possible.

Sometimes a project group can contain scans of different parts which cannot be merged and for me personally, in order to have a clear overview over my projects I like to keep all parts of a scanning project in one project group. Therefore what I would like to have is the option to mesh ONLY the selected project of a project group and not all at once.

  4. Observed behavior: Exscan uses default targets for “save” and “temp” path after update and “forgets” the user set paths.
Expected behavior: Exscan has the configured user “save” and “temp” path after update

I am looking forward to a very construtive discussion and hope that the features will be implemented rather sooner than later.

Thanks!

Best regards,
RoB

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and suggestions. We really appreciate your time and support.

  1. We will add the feature of saving the mesh into the project in the next version. Please stay tuned for our official updates.

  2. We do support exporting mesh files from the device to the PC. After completing the meshing process, you can connect the device to your PC via USB, click the export button in the upper-right corner, and enable ‘USB Drive Mode’ in the Control Center. A pop-up window will then appear on your PC. You can select the STL file, copy it to your local storage, and open it in EXScan Rigil.

  3. For this feature, we are still testing and optimizing the workflow. We will keep improving it and appreciate your patience. Stay tuned for future updates!

  4. Currently, the software does not retain user-defined save and temp paths after an upgrade. We will forward this feedback to our development team for further evaluation. Thank you again for your suggestion.
